you will always compensate for things you don't hear or things you hear too much of.

Would you mix the "flat curve" to sound better to where it's perfect for you, then when you go back to your original headphone curve, would it be even better?Ĭonfusing sorry lol, I have only mixed on my monitors and headphones, never anything flat, so I dont get how to mix with flat. If you like the original curve better, or if you think the flat curve "could sound better"

Listen to the uncalibrated demos, then listen to the flat curve, with your specific headphones That's what is confusing me about the "mixing with flat" is the flat sound suppose to be "dull and normal" to create a good mix on normal headphones, or are you suppose to mix the flat sound to sound really good then it'll sound even better on unflat sources?

Thanks for the responses! I also thought the non calibrated signal sounded better, and the calibrated seemed too much "flat", like, the non calibrated seemed like a normal song I'd listen to, and try to mix like, but once the calibration profile goes on, I feel like "ooh, I wanna fix this and that", I wonder if I fix'ed "this and that" it would sound even better uncalibrated here? I can tell you from personal experience that the HD800s with Sonarworks Reference delivers a monitoring system that's about as accurate as high end monitors in a treated space. It used to be considered sacrilegious to mix with headphones, but headphone technology has improved exponentially in just the past 10 years or so, to the point where it actually is totally feasible to properly mix using headphones. deals, so it's worth picking up if you have a high end pair of headphones (or even a cheap pair) and simply want them to be as accurate as possible. The bass response is also massively extended to where you can down to 20 hz in fact nearly any headphone will benefit when it comes to the bass and sub bass range. I think it depends what headphone you're using and the specific issues it may have, i.e., the hd800s have one of the brightest peaks around 6-7khz that people have tried to get rid of for years (using custom cables, making custom absorption cut-outs to stick inside the earpieces, etc.), as that frequency spike is really about the only flaw in an otherwise near-perfect headphone. I usually mix with HD800s and certainly would not, without the Sonarworks corrective EQ. The point is what you hear is more true to the original sounds, and you will be more likely to mix a result that works on a larger variety of systems because you mix with a flat picture. I see your point re referencing other tracks however you aren't referencing all the time on a per sound basis, and IMO its difficult to argue against having a flatter response. Thoughts on this here?for me sonarworks has made a huge impact and I would not mix without it, combined with Waves NX it has allowed me to significantly improve my mixes in a location with mediocre acoustics.I use HD800 and got a custom calibration from them (which takes it another level up). So, what are the benefits to this? Will my mixes really improve? Is it superficial or actually helps alot? Or would I be better with my normal AKG and ATH open/close combo and referencing my ideal mixes, without bothering with this eq curve stuff. Most of the market now uses headphones, and I Don't know if FLAT frequenecy curves are ideal for them here. Now, if I do buy this, and I mix all my songs with the "flat profile" I would be referencing other songs, what's the point? Cause I could just reference them without the flat profile, and mix like them anyway.ĭoes having it "flat" benefit at all? Like, it seems to change the sound a lot, is "FLAT" ideal for headphones? Say, if I mixed to my liking without the flat profile, would it be better for headphones but worse for speakers? Whereas if I used the flat profile, it would sound OKAY on headphones and better on speakers? They now have demos for the supported headphones, I tried mine, TBH I liked both the calibrated and none calibrated profiles, you guys can go try yours too, it's an online demo, tell me which mix you like better "uncalibrated" or the flat "calibrated" profile
